These are some of the Regulations your company might be faced with. Packaging RegulationsThe Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Regulations) first came into force in Great Britain in 1997 and in Northern Ireland during 1999. The Regulations require businesses with a turnover greater than 50 tonnes of packaging a year, to register and fulfil an obligation to recover and recycle an amount of packaging waste. Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005New rules affecting the collection of hazardous waste were introduced in England and Wales Regulations replaced the Special Waste controls and hazardous waste producers to register by July 16th 2005 and on an annual basis thereafter. Pre-treatment RegulationsWaste required to be “pre-treated” before it is sent to landfill. Animal By-ProductsThe Animal By-Products (ABP) Order controls the handling and disposal of ABP waste. It is legally binding and has been formulated in response to the spread of diseases such as BSE and Foot and Mouth. The Regulations have strict requirements on how to collect, transport, store and dispose of such wastes to prevent cross contamination of foodstuffs. WEEE RegulationsThe UK legislation is ‘The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2006 SI 2006 No 3289'. When electrical and electronic equipment (subject to the WEEE Regulations) ceases to be used and is designated as waste, the Regulations place a requirement on producers and/or final users to recover and recycle the equipment in line with specific rules.
